Piece Four

The library always had a certain appeal. First off, it was the media center, not the library. Not very BA, but the stupidity of the title made it easy to laugh in there. Most of the shelves were about three and a half feet tall. Just short enough that you couldn't rest your elbows on them. Two rows of about twenty computers, each in its own division. (Though it was still all too easy to elbow the person next to you.) A high table with reference computers (a la 1995) with which you could only make futile searches. 5-6 foot shelves against the walls. Half of the front and back walls were windows--the excellent, high-price views of the awkward main hall and the dandelion infested courtyard. There was a pit, oft abused by your average idiots hopping around. Our head librarians sat at a desk literally two feet tall. I can recall them sitting there, but not sure how. The actual desk with the computer and whatnot was almost four feet tall. There was a small, useless shelf under it (a cabinet was in the way). Part of it dipped down into a useful shelf, but it generally held held books. The computer was old and had an affinity for crashing.

My nostalgia took up twenty minutes. I missed yesterday, but I guess I made it up? The library will continue next week. It was, and is, very important to me.
